If you have a farm of terminal servers that you need to load balance, Hiker could be just what you are looking for.

Unlike other load balancing solutions (such as dns round robin and Network Load Balancing), Hiker actually asks the terminal servers how many users are currently connected, and then send the user to the server with the least number of connections.

How it Works

You have an xml config file that is hosted on a unc share or a web site, that holds details of your server farm. Hiker copies this file to the users local profile, then goes and gets details about all these servers.

If the user has a session open on one of the servers they will get re-connected to this session, if they have more than one session open across the servers they are presented with a list of their sessions and can pick one to connect to. If they have no sessions open, they are connected to the server with the least number of sessions.
